TU Gmail
Setting up a smartphone/iPad/tablet
There are two methods for setting your your iPhone or iPad to access TU Gmail.
- The first method, uses the IMAP protocol and enables you to simply sync your e-mail and calendar with your device.
- The second method, uses the Google Sync protocol and enables you sync your e-mail, calendar, and contacts to your device.
Using IMAP protocol to sync e-mail & calendar
Before setting up your iPhone or iPad, use a computer to enable IMAP in TU Gmail by performing the following steps:
- Log in to the TUmail website.
- Click the gear icon
in the upper right and select Settings.
- Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP from the Settings menu across the top.
- Select Enable IMAP.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Save Changes.
Next, configure your iPhone or iPad by performing the following steps:
- Tap the Settings icon.
- Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Tap Add Account.
- Tap Gmail.
- Enter the following information:
- Name: Your name
- Address: Your TU Gmail e-mail address (AccessNet-username@temple.edu)
- Password: Your AccessNet password
- Tap Next.
- Tap Save
- Finally, press the Home button and then tap your Mail icon and look for Gmail.
Note that the iPhone is automatically configured with the following settings:
- Outgoing Mail Server:
SMTP: smtp.gmail.com
- Advanced:
Use SSL: ON
Authentication: Password
Server Port: 993Using Google protocol to sync e-mail, calendar, & contacts
To sync your e-mail, calendar, and contacts, refer to Setting up Google Sync with your iOS device.
Note: When prompted for your username, enter your AccessNet-username@temple.edu.)
Before setting up your Android phone or tablet, use a computer to enable IMAP in TU Gmail by performing the following steps:
- Log in to the TUmail website.
- Click the gear icon
in the upper right and select Settings. - Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP from the Settings menu across the top.
- Select Enable IMAP.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Save Changes.
Next, configure your Android phone or tablet by performing the following steps:
Note: These instructions assume your phone/tablet has the Google Gmail app. Also note that the steps may vary slightly depending on your particular model of phone or tablet.
- Launch the Gmail app.
- Press the Menu Button.
- Tap Accounts.
- Tap Add account.
- Under Setup Accounts tap the Google icon.
- Tap Next.
- Under Already have a Google Account, tap Sign in.
- In the Username box, enter your TU Gmail e-mail address (AccessNet-username@temple.edu). Make sure to replace @gmail.com with @temple.edu.
- In the Password box, enter your AccessNet password.
- Then tap Sign in.
- Then wait a few minutes for the initial setup process to complete.
- Under Data & synchronization, tap the boxes next to Sync Contacts and Sync Gmail to enable synchronization. The Sync Calendar checkbox should already be selected. If any other options appear, such as Sync Drive or Google Play, these are optional selections that you may choose to synchronize, if you wish.
- Select Finish and then Finish setup.
Google provides instructions for setting up a BlackBerry for mail but IMAP access is not officially supported. For instructions and more details, see the Google Gmail BlackBerry web page.
