Netscape 4 .0 & later

This section describes how to configure, enable, and disable the proxy server information for Netscape 4.0 and later. It is best to configure the Web browser to go through the proxy server using the instructions below and then disable the settings until the next time you use Temple's wireless network or a public-access laptop Internet port, or the next time you access Temple's library databases. Otherwise, your Internet connection may be slowed down.

Configuring the proxy information

1. Click on the Edit menu and select Preferences.
2. On the left side of the Preferences window under Category, click on the plus symbol (+) or triangle next to Advanced.
3. Click on Proxies.
4. On the right side of the window, click on Manual proxy configuration.
5. Then in the HTTP Proxy box, type: gate.temple.edu and in the associated Port box, type 8080.
6. Click on OK.
7. Close and restart Netscape.

Now, when connected to the Internet, your Web session will be directed through Temple's proxy server and you will be prompted to enter a username and password. Enter your AccessNet username and password at this prompt.

Disabling the proxy server
