Internet Explorer
5.0 and Later for Dial-Up Users (PC)
This section describes how to configure, enable, and disable the
proxy server
information for Internet Explorer. It is best to configure the Web
browser to go
through the proxy server using the instructions below and then disable
the settings until
the next time you need to access Temple's library databases. Otherwise,
your Internet connection may be slowed down.
Configuring the
proxy information
1. Click on the Tools menu and select Internet Options.
2. Click on the Connections tab.
3. In the Dial-up settings box, make sure the connection file for your Internet
Service Provider (such as AOL or DCANet) is highlighted.
4. Click on the Settings button.
5. Under Proxy server, click on the box next to Use a proxy server
for this connection to place
a check mark.
6. Next, move the cursor to the Address box, click once and type: http://gate.temple.edu:8080
7. Click on OK to exit the Settings window. Then click on OK again to
exit the Internet Options window.
8. Close and restart Internet Explorer.
Now, when connected to the Internet, your Web session will be directed
through Temple's proxy server and
you will be prompted to enter a username and password. Enter your
AccessNet username and password at this prompt.
Note: Certain customized releases of Internet Explorer seem to ignore the
proxy settings. If your release of Internet Explorer does not prompt you
for a username and password, Computer Services recommends
that you use Firefox or Netscape instead.
