Internet Explorer 5.0 and later (Mac OS X)
This section describes how to
configure, enable, and disable the proxy server information for the Mac OS X
version of Internet Explorer 5.0 and later.
Note: This procedure differs
from the other proxy server instructions in this section in that the
settings are made to the operating system rather than to the browser.
It is best to configure the Web browser to go through the proxy server using the instructions below and then disable the settings until the next time you use Temple's wireless network or a public-access laptop Internet port, or the next time you access Temple's library databases. Otherwise, your Internet connection may be slowed down.
Configuring the
proxy information
1. Click on the Apple menu on the top left corner of the screen and select
System Preferences.
2. In the Internet & Network section of the System
Preferences window, click on Network.
3. In the Location box, make sure the correct location is
listed based on how you set up your Internet connection.
4. Click on the Proxies tab
and fill out the Proxies information as follows:
5. Click on Web Proxy
(HTTP) so that a check mark appears in the box next to it.
6. In the Web Proxy (HTTP)
box, type: gate.temple.edu
7. In the associated Port
box, type: 8080
8. Click on Apply Now. Then close the Network window.
9. Close and restart Internet Explorer.
Disabling
the proxy server
1. Click on the Apple menu on the top left corner of the screen and select
System Preferences.
2. In the Internet & Network section of the System
Preferences window, click on Network.
3. In the Location box, make sure the correct location is
listed based on how you set up your Internet connection.
4. Click on the Proxies tab.
5. Click on Web Proxy
(HTTP) to remove the check mark that appears in the box next to it.
6. Click on Apply Now. Then close the Network window.
7. Close and restart Internet Explorer.
Enabling
the proxy server
1. Click on the Apple menu on the top left corner of the screen and select

4. Click on the Proxies tab.
5. Click on Web Proxy

6. Click on Apply Now. Then close the Network window.
7. Close and restart Internet Explorer.
Now, when you first access a Temple
website, you will be prompted to enter your AccessNet username and password. |
