This section describes how to configure, enable, and disable the proxy server information for Internet Explorer. It is best to configure the Web browser to go through the proxy server using the instructions below and then disable the settings until the next time you use Temple's wireless network or a public-access laptop Internet port, or the next time you access Temple's library databases. Otherwise, your Internet connection may be slowed down.
Configuring the
proxy information
1. Click on the Edit menu and select Preferences.
2. In the left hand portion of the Internet Explorer Preferences
window, click on the triangle next to Network so it is pointing
downward. Then click on Proxies.
3. Under Use Proxy Servers, click on the box next to Web Proxy to place a check mark.
4. Click on the Settings button.
5. In the Address box, type:
http://gate.temple.edu
6. Press the Tab key to move the cursor to the Port box
and type: 8080
7. Press the Tab key to move the cursor to the User Name
box and
type your AccessNet username.
8. Press the Tab key to move the cursor to the Password
box and
type your AccessNet password.
9. Click on OK to exit the Web Proxy Settings
window.
10. Make sure a check mark appears next to Use Web
Proxy for all.
11. Then click on OK again to
exit the Internet Explorer Preferences window.
12. Close and restart Internet Explorer. The proxy server settings are now configured and enabled.
Now, when connected to the Internet, your Web session will be directed
through Temple's proxy server and
you will be prompted to enter a username and password. Enter your
AccessNet username and password at this prompt.
Disabling
the proxy server
1. Click on the Edit menu and select Preferences.
2. In the left hand portion of the Internet Explorer Preferences
window, click on the triangle next to Network so it is pointing
downward. Then click on Proxies.
3. Under Use Proxy Servers, click on the box next to Web Proxy to remove the check mark.
4. Click on OK to exit the Internet Explorer Preferences window.
5. Close and restart Internet Explorer.
Enabling
the proxy server
1. Click on the Edit menu and select
Preferences.
2. In the left hand portion of the Internet Explorer Preferences
window, click on the triangle next to Network so it is pointing
downward. Then click on Proxies.
3. Under Use Proxy Servers, click on the box next to Web Proxy to place a check mark.
4. Click on OK to exit the Internet Explorer Preferences window. The proxy server is now configured and enabled.
5. Close and restart Internet Explorer.
Now, when connected to the Internet, your Web session will be directed
through Temple's proxy server and
you will be prompted to enter a username and password. Enter your
AccessNet username and password at this prompt.
