Firefox (Macintosh)

This section describes how to configure, enable, and disable the proxy server information for the Macintosh version of Firefox. It is best to configure the Web browser to go through the proxy server using the instructions below and then disable the settings until the next time you use Temple's wireless network or a public-access laptop Internet port, or the next time you access Temple's library databases. Otherwise, your Internet connection may be slowed down.

Configuring the proxy information

1. Click on the Firefox menu and select Preferences.
2. Under the Connection heading, click on the Connection Settings button to the right of Set up Proxies for accessing the internet.
3. Click on Manual proxy configuration.
4. In the HTTP Proxy box, type: gate.temple.edu
5. In the associated Port box, type: 8080
6. Click on OK to exit the Configure Proxies to Access the Internet window. Then click on OK to exit the Preferences window.
7. Click on the Firefox menu and select Quit Firefox. Then restart Firefox. Now, when connected to the Internet, your Web session will be directed through Temple's proxy server and you will be prompted to enter a username and password. Enter your AccessNet username and password at this prompt.

Disabling the proxy server
