Determining the MAC Address of your Device
To find out the MAC (Media Access Control) Adapter Address for your Ethernet or wireless network card, follow the instructions below that pertain to your computer's operating system.
Note: MAC/Adapter Addresses are in the form of: yy:yy:yy:yy:yy:yy
They do not, however, begin with 44, as in this example: 44:yy:yy:yy:yy:yy
I. Windows
Windows 8
Standard Ethernet Card
- From the Start screen, type cmd.
- Click Command Prompt on the left under Apps.
- At the command prompt, type: getmac /v and press Enter.
- On the Local Area Conn line, the combination of twelve letters and numbers listed under Physical Address is the MAC address.
Wireless Network Card
- From the Start screen, type cmd.
- Click Command Prompt on the left under Apps.
- At the command prompt, type: getmac /v and press Enter.
- On the Wireless Network line, the combination of twelve letters and numbers listed under Physical Address is the MAC address.
Windows 7 / Vista
Standard Ethernet Card
- Click the Start button.
- In the Search box, type cmd and press Enter.
- At the command prompt, type: getmac /v and press Enter.
- On the Local Area Conn line, the combination of twelve letters and numbers listed under Physical Address is the MAC address.
Wireless Network Card
- Click on the Start button.
- In the Search box, type cmd and press Enter.
- At the command prompt, type: getmac /v and press Enter.
- On the Wireless Network line, the combination of twelve letters and numbers listed under Physical Address is the MAC address.
Windows XP
Standard Ethernet Card
- Click on the Start button.
- In the Search box, type cmd and press Enter.
- At the command prompt, type: getmac /v and press Enter.
- On the Local Area Conn line, the combination of twelve letters and numbers listed under Physical Address is the MAC address.
Wireless Network Card
- Click on the Start button.
- In the Search box, type cmd and press Enter.
- At the command prompt, type: getmac /v and press Enter.
- On the Wireless Network line, the combination of twelve letters and numbers listed under Physical Address is the MAC address.
OS X Leopard or higher (version 10.5 or higher)
Standard Ethernet Card
- Click the Apple icon in the top left corner of the screen and select System Preferences.
- In the Internet & Wireless section of the System Preferences window, click the Network icon.
- In the left panel of the Network window, click Ethernet.
- Click Advanced.
- Click the Ethernet tab. The combination of twelve letters and numbers to the right of Ethernet ID is the MAC Address.
Wireless Network Card
- Click the Apple icon in the top left corner of the screen and select System Preferences.
- In the Internet & Wireless section of the System Preferences window, click the Network icon.
- In the left panel of the Network window, click AirPort.
- Click Advanced.
- Click the AirPort tab. The combination of twelve letters and numbers to the right of AirPort ID is the MAC Address.
Apple iPad/iPhone/iPod
- Tap Settings
- Tap General.
- Tap About. The combination of twelve letters and numbers to the right of Wi-Fi Address is the MAC Address.
Android Smartphone or Tablet
- Press the Home button at the bottom of the phone.
- Press the Menu button.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Wireless & Networks.
- If Wi-Fi is not already selected, tap Wi-Fi to turn it on.
- Press the Back button.
- Tap About Phone.
- Tap Status.The combination of twelve letters and numbers under Wi-Fi MAC Address is the MAC Address.
Xbox 360
- Go to the System area of the Xbox Dashboard and select Network Settings.
- Select Edit Settings.
- From Additional Settings, select Advanced Settings. The combination of twelve letters and numbers next to Wired MAC Address is the MAC Address.
Playstation 3
- Select Settings on the PS3 Home Menu.
- Navigate down and select System Settings.
- Select System Information. The combination of twelve letters and numbers next to MAC Address is the MAC Address.
Nintendo Wii
- From the Wii Channel menu, select Wii Settings (the round button on the bottom-left of the screen with "Wii" on it).
- Select Internet, then Console Settings. The MAC address of the Wii console is displayed on the first line.
