Connect to the Internet through Wireless


Temple provides wireless Internet access in key locations throughout the university to all current students, faculty, and staff as well as alumni and guests. There is 100% coverage in Temple-owned residence halls. However, not all academic and administrative buildings are fully covered.

Wireless connections are available to access Temple resources and the web and through the following networks:

University Wide
Access: Main, HSC, Ambler, TUCC, School of Podiatric Medicine, and Fort Washington

  • TUsecurewireless
    • provides access to Temple resources such as TUportal, TUmail, and Blackboard as well as administrative resources on the Temple network
    • requires either AccessNet authentication or guest login credentials
    • may require device configuration
    • provides a secure network
    • supports Print on the Go remote printing

  • TUguestwireless
    • enables visitors of Temple University or the Temple University Health System (including hospital patients) to register for 24-hour access to the TUsecurewireless network. For more information, see Obtaining Guest Wireless Access.

  • eduroam
    • free and secure wireless service when visiting an eduroam member university and for visitors from member institutions

Residence Hall
Access: For current Temple students or staff residing in rooms in 1300, 1940, Elmira Jeffries, Hardwick, Johnson, Peabody, Temple Towers, Triangle Apartments, White, and Podiatry

  • TUresnet
    • provides full access to Temple resources such as TUportal, TUmail, and Blackboard
    • requires AccessNet authentication
    • requires registration through the GetConnected web site
    • may require device configuration
    • provides a secure wireless network
    • supports Print on the Go wireless printing
  • TUresnetextra
    • connects to resources designed for non-computer devices such as game consoles
    • requires registration through the GetConnected web site
    • does not require AccessNet authentication
    • provides a secure wireless network

    Note: Computer Services does not support or recommend setting up wireless printers at this time.

Who is entitled to this service?

  • Anyone with a current AccessNet account

  • Sponsored guests, such as parents, friends, product vendors, conference attendees, and outside organizations, such as news media personnel

What are the limitations and restrictions related to this service?

This service is available where there is a wireless network signal. Temple continues to expand its wireless hotspots, however, some areas do not have wireless access, such as classrooms, conference rooms, and athletic facilities.

What are the requirements for using this service?

  • General Requirements:
    • WiFi (802.11b/g/n) enabled device (laptop, tablet, or smart phone)
    • login credentials
    • completion of a registration process for residence hall networks
      (See instructions in web or mobile format.)

  • Laptop Operating System Requirements:
    • Windows XP Service Pack 3 or later
    • Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard or later

When is this service available for use?

The wireless network is available 24 hours a day throughout the year except during periods of scheduled maintenance or any unforeseen network or electrical problems.

What is the cost of this service?

There is no cost associated with connecting to Temple's wireless hotspots.

How do I request this service?

Anyone with an AccessNet Account: The credentials necessary to access the wireless networks are already available and do not have to be requested.

Guests: For instructions on how to obtain guest wireless access, see Obtaining Guest Wireless Access.

What is the time frame for fulfillment of service?

  • Anyone with an AccessNet Account: The credentials necessary to access the wireless networks are available to you immediately and do not have to be requested.

  • Guests: Upon completing a simple form, a pre-assigned password will be sent to your cell phone as a text message. You can then immediately log in to the TUsecurewireless network using your ten-digit cell phone number (without spaces, dashes, or parentheses) as the username and pre-assigned password password.
