Recycle Computer and Electronic Equipment

The Computer Recycling Center (CRC) manages all surplus electronics equipment and related materials in a secure and environmentally friendly way. These items include, but are not limited to, computers, laptops, monitors, printers, scanners, TVs, projectors, keyboards, mice, phones, DVDs, CDs, disks, cords, cables, toner, and ink cartridges.

Note: The CRC accepts functioning and non-functioning equipment as well as items that plug in or are related to equipment that plugs in.

The CRC manages the process of:

  • removing equipment from its current location after it has been removed from service and prepared for pickup
  • tracking equipment submitted as surplus after the surplus order has been completed
  • purging all data from the submitted equipment with a process approved by the Information Security Office

How do I use this service?

  1. Back up and remove university and proprietary data. The CRC will purge all data after receiving equipment.
  2. Gather equipment.
  3. Go to Computer and Electronics Surplus Form and log in with your AccessNet username and password. Then, complete and print the form, obtain the signature of your Department or Budget Unit Head, and fax the form to 1-5734.

    The CRC will contact you to arrange for pickup.

What are the requirements for using this service?

  • AccessNet account
  • Computer and Electronics Surplus Form including:
    • description and serial number for large/significant items such as computers, monitors, printers, and scanners
    • description and quantity (in the "Notes" section) for small items such as CDs, DVDs, floppy disks, toner, and ink cartridges
    • signature of your Department or Budget Unit Head on the fax page, which is the last page of the form
  • Back up and remove university and proprietary data. The CRC will purge all data after receiving equipment.

What is the time frame for fulfillment of service?

The CRC will contact you within seven business days of receiving a completed and signed Computer and Electronics Surplus Form to schedule equipment pickup.

When is this service available for use?

The request form is available online 24/7; equipment is picked up Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

What is the cost of this service?

The cost was already collected by the Advanced Recovery Fee (ARF) which was included in the price of new equipment purchased through Computer Business Services.

How do I request this service?

Fill out and submit the Computer and Electronics Surplus Request Form. Then, complete and print the form, obtain the signature of your Department or Budget Unit Head, and fax the form to 1-5734.
