Snow Leopard has been released - Apple Inc. released their new operating system, Snow Leopard on August 28th. Unlike a typical Apple Release, there are several significant product incompatibility issues that have an impact to the University, notably Symantec Antivirus version 10.2 and SPSS v.17 for Mac. These programs will not function with Snow Leopard. For the complete list, go to http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3258.
At this time, Computer Services strongly recommends against upgrading from Mac OS Tiger or Leopard to Snow Leopard. End users should consider waiting to upgrade until the product has a chance to mature and for other software publishers to release compatible versions of their software.
Apple is currently shipping new machines with Snow Leopard installed. Please be advised that end users may not "roll back" their new machines to an earlier operating system and will have to contend with the potential challenges outlined.
We anticipate the Symantec and SPSS compatibility issues being resolved sometime in October. As soon as Computer Services is comfortable with the software being deployed, it will be communicated to the University community.

ALERT: Computer Business Services has been made aware of various companies contacting departments within Temple University and offering incentives for individuals to purchase toner cartridges. In addition, some have even called under the pretense of obtaining delivery information for cartridges that have not been ordered. This provides companies with the necessary information to ship the cartridges directly to end users. Once the cartridges are accepted onto campus, the end user is responsible for processing payment to the company.
Please be aware that these cartridges are extremely expensive and do not have a long life span. If a department is contacted and accepts delivery from one of these companies, the department will be charged for the toner and no returns can be made. If your department receives a phone call from an unknown company, please call Computer Business Services at 215-204-5000.
