Frequently Asked Questions by Cardholders

Who do I contact if I lost my Temple ID card?

During business hours, students should contact the Diamond Dollars office at 1-3140 or the Office of University Housing at 1-7184. After hours, students should contact the Temple Police at 1-1234 or a Sodexho manager in the Student Center Food Court or Johnson Dining.

Employees should contact the Temple Police at 1-1234 during or after business hours.

These offices can 'suspend' your card until it is found or a replacement issued. You will need to have someone reinstate your card when a new card is issued or your old card found by you. Suspending your card will insure that no one can use your ID card for any reason.

Where do I go for problems with my meal plan?

If you are in Johnson Dining Hall, ask to speak to a manager at the cashier stations. They may be able to help you out. Otherwise, all meal plan problems should be directed to the Housing office on the second floor of 1910 Liacouras Walk. It is best if you show up with your ID card and explain the problem.

Where do I go for problems with my Diamond Dollars Account?

Go to the Diamond Dollars office on the second floor of 1910 Liacouras Walk.

Where do I go for problems with my parking access?

You should visit one of the three parking offices at Temple. The Liacouras Garage, Ontario Garage, or Student Center lower level. Parking Services has a website for further information at: http://www.temple.edu/parking.

How do I get access to the Recreation Centers (IBC) with my ID?

Fulltime students (12 credits or more for undergrad and 9 credits or more for grad) automatically get access to the Recreation Facilities as part of their tuition. All other students must pay at the Bursar Office on their campus and take the receipt to the Recreation Services office in McGonigle Hall to have the privilege assigned to them immediately, otherwise, your privilege will be automatically assigned by the next day.

Employees must apply at the Recreation Services office in McGonigle Hall and can select payroll deduction or cash payment.

How do commuter students get meal plans?

Commuter students can signup for meal plans at the Student Center Food Court or Johnson Dining Hall. Sodexho managers will check your student account to make sure it is in good standing and start the meal plan assignment process by having you complete a meal plan application form. Meal plans are typically assigned on the spot so you can start using your card immediately to eat. The actual meal plan assessment will show on your student bill approximately two days after your application is received.

How can I add more money to my Diamond Dollars Account?

Several methods are available:
1. Go to the Diamond Dollars office on the second floor of 1910 Liacouras Walk and give them your deposit of cash, check or credit card.
2. Make a credit card deposit over the web by visiting online at http://www.temple.edu/diamonddollars.
3. Go to the Bursar office on the 1st floor of Carnell hall and give them your deposit of cash, check or credit card.

Why doesn't my ID card work for resident halls other than the one I am living in?

The Office of University Housing sets the rules for resident hall access that states that resident students should only have card swipe access to their own resident hall. The exception is Peabody Hall residents who have access to Johnson and Hardwick Hall so they can check their mail boxes. To visit another hall, you would need to be signed in as a guest of someone who already lives in that hall. If your card doesn't work for your residence hall then stop by the Housing Office at 1910 Liacouras Walk second floor for them to investigate.

I received a replacement ID card today, will it work for parking?

You will need to visit your campus Parking Services office to have them change the issue number on your account to allow the new card to work at the parking gates. Parking Services uses a separate system than the access card system, even though they use the same ID card.

I swipe my ID card in a reader and nothing happens. No error message or warnings.

1. Check to make sure you are swiping your ID card with the large magnetic stripe on the card against the inside of the card slot with the stripe facing towards your right.
2. If your card still doesn't work and the reader continues to display "Please swipe ID card", your magnetic stripe may have been erased. You should return to the office that issued the ID card and ask for a replacement ID. Students must turn in the old card in order to avoid a replacement fee charge.

When I swipe my card at a vending reader and make a purchase the reader shows that I have less than $20 even though I know I have more money on my account?

This is a safety feature implemented on Diamond Dollars Accounts to prevent more than $20 a day to be spent at vending machines. Experience has shown that most people don't realize their card is missing for several hours. This daily limit puts a cap on your losses at unattended readers for $20. This amount resets at midnight everyday.
