Since 2003, Temple’s
Administrative Computer Services Workflow group has used
Business Process Management software developed by Ultimus,
Inc., to redesign manual paper processes into more efficient
automated systems. These new workflow processes allow
interaction between people, through electronic forms over
the internet, and with existing computer applications.
Whether it is a large business process such as Purchasing
Requests that involve more than 800 users, or a process
involving a smaller group like Appointment Letters for
faculty and graduate students, each one is now being done
with increased standardization and speed. Each one of these
processes uses automation to decrease “lag” time inherent in
manual processes, such as; waiting for mail delivery,
acquiring approval, and incompleteness of information. By
decreasing “lag” time which is estimated to be 80% in most
business processes, it results in significant time and cost
savings.
