The Academic
Computer Services Office supports,
promotes, and enhances the use of computer and information technologies
in instruction and research at all of Temple University’s campuses. Major functions include:
The Instructional Support and Training group
provides technical support, services, and resources to Temple
University faculty in the application of appropriate technology to
meet their instructional needs. The Instructional Support Centers (ISCs)
offer instructional design services, consultations, and training for
faculty. The ISC manages the operations and support of the BlackBoard
course management and delivery system, streaming media and web
servers, and digital imaging systems. The Instructional Support
Services unit meets the media and technology needs of instructors
teaching in classrooms through the delivery of multimedia equipment
and through the maintenance and management of Smart Classrooms.
- Lab Operations/Campus
and College Support
The Computer Lab Management group maintains over 50 computer labs across Temple University’s campuses. The goal is to provide students
with access to computer applications, research databases, and the
Internet. Labs include 100-workstation general-purpose labs, classroom
labs, and small labs for specialized academic disciplines.
The Computer Seminars and Workshops unit, also known
as the Training group, provides hands-on, instructor-led training on
the use of computer technology to Temple University students, faculty
and staff of all skill levels at the Main, Ambler, and HSC campuses.
Training topics vary and include the use of desktop applications and
multimedia devices. Topics, such as using a PDA, digital camera and
web development are a few of the many popular seminars that are
offered. The unit also develops all the instructional activities and
materials used in training sessions. Other types of training provided
by this unit include New Student Orientation, Parent Orientation, and
specialized departmental training.
