About CS

Welcome: A Message from Timothy O'Rourke,
Vice President of Computer and Information Services
Timothy O'Rourke

October 27, 2004

On October 22, 2004, The Princeton Review announced that Temple University ranked fourth as the “Most Connected Campus” in the nation. This is significant to everyone associated with the University. First and foremost, it means that we are not just keeping up with technology, we are on the cutting edge.

Being connected is a way of life for today’s students, helping them excel in the classroom and prepare for the careers of tomorrow. Over the past several years, the University has made rapid progress in improving and expanding services to meet the demands for success.

In “America’s Most Connected Campuses” survey, The Princeton Review took into account factors such as the student-to-computer ratio, the existence of a campus network, wireless Internet capabilities, and Web space for students. Point values were given to each category based on their importance to college life.

What drives Temple near the top of this list is our vision and determination to offer top-of-the-line technology services. Among the many strides and achievements have been the dynamic wireless expansion, the growing number of smart classrooms, and the successful anti-virus campaign.

TUportal, the one-stop gateway for Computer Services, continues to make enhanced services and resources available to both faculty and students. This endeavor has had a significant impact on teaching and learning at Temple. Also, TUmail has provided the University with an integrated, reliable, Web-driven system that allows everyone to check their e-mail anywhere, anytime.

The Princeton Review's national ranking is a very proud accomplishment for everyone at Temple University. A great deal of effort has gone into this success. I would like to thank everyone who has played a part in improving and sustaining technology here at Temple. We will continue our efforts researching and delivering cutting edge technology services to the University community.
