On February 4, 2003, I announced in a memo
that Temple bought the
Mirapoint e-mail platform. Given the number of e-mail
systems at Temple, the conversion to a new centralized
system is extremely complex.
We have been working over the past two weeks to develop an
implementation plan to bring Temple's new e-mail system
online on May 17th. The first phase of this plan
includes consolidating the major e-mail systems that Temple
currently supports.
Nimbus and Blue Accounts
As part of the consolidation process, the Nimbus and Blue
systems will be removed from service on May 16th.
After this date, Nimbus and Blue e-mail addresses will no
longer work.
If you use either of these systems, please obtain an
AccessNet (@temple.edu) account by March 15th. To obtain an account
online, please go to:
http://accounts.temple.edu. Once you have an account,
you can forward your e-mail messages and transfer your mail
folders. An e-mail message with detailed instructions
will be sent to your Nimbus or Blue account to help you
through the transition.
GroupWise Accounts
GroupWise accounts will be transferred to the new system
after all other accounts have been migrated. Information
regarding this transition will be announced at a later date.
Temple E-Mail Address Variations
The consolidation process also includes streamlining many
of the Temple e-mail addresses into a standard @temple.edu
address. So, if you currently use any of the following
e-mail variations in your address, you can begin immediately
using @temple.edu:
@astro.temple.edu
@astro.ocis.temple.edu
@thunder.temple.edu
@thunder.ocis.temple.edu
@unix.temple.edu
@unix.ocis.temple.edu
@typhoon.temple.edu
@tempest.temple.edu
As stated, all these variations can be replaced by
using @temple.edu. For example, instead of using
@thunder.temple.edu,
you can simply use @temple.edu. Please keep this in
mind if you plan to order stationery or business cards. The
address variations listed above will no longer work after
December 31, 2003.
We strongly recommend, however, that you make every
effort to completely eliminate the use of these addresses earlier,
preferably before May 17, 2003.
Computer Services is developing a website focusing on the
development of Temple's new e-mail system. The site will
include important details on how the migration will affect
you and, hopefully, answer some of your questions. It will
also feature our progress and include an online preview of
the new system. In addition, the site will offer
instructions on how you can update your mail client to make
sure it reflects the @temple.edu address.
I appreciate your patience during this transition and ask
that you work with us through some of the complex issues.
The changes we are asking you to make may now seem like an
inconvenience, but the resulting single system, single
address structure will ultimately benefit us all.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation. |
