BioQ Collaborative

Both science teachers and educational researchers share the goal of improving student science learning.   Working together, we seek to understand what instructional strategies are most effective in promoting meaningful student learning as well as increasing student confidence and interest in science.   To this end, the goal of the BioQ Collaborative is to cultivate a collaborative community of Chicago Public School (CPS) science teachers and Northwestern University science education researchers and scientists that connects the classroom to the university.

We provide inquiry-based biology curricula, I, Bio for use in middle schools and Disease Detectives for use in high schools, as well as professional development to support teachers integrating new tools and practices into their classrooms to improve student learning.   Thanks to a generous grant from the National Institutes of Health, each year BioQ offers high school biology teachers and middle school science teachers the opportunity to join our collaborative as learners, teachers, and researchers in an extended, intensive professional development experience.
