Summer Research Laboratories

July 10th - July 21st
Monday-Friday (10 days)
9 am - 3 pm
Northwestern University's School of Education and Biology laboratories (Evanston)

The Summer Research Laboratories will deepen your understanding of the concepts you will teach using the I, Bio curriculum through a series of hands-on laboratory experiences that will prepare you to assist your students in their investigations.

•  Work in the biology teaching lab to design, conduct, and analyze experiments with living chick embryos to investigate the levels of organization of the body's organs, tissues, and cells.   Your students will conduct a similar investigation with computer-based resources provided with the I, Bio curriculum.

•  Inquire into the nature of energy in food by designing, conducting, and analyzing experiments with a bomb calorimeter.   Your students will use the tin can calorimeters provided with the I, Bio curriculum to investigate this same concept.
