The Joseph Beam Scholarship Prize Joseph Beam was a Temple student. He edited one of the first anthologies ever of gay black writing, In The Life. Beam's mother established the Joseph Beam Scholarship Prize when Beam died of AIDS. This prize is awarded annually for any essay or literary piece on gay, lesbian, or transgender issues written by an undergraduate or graduate student in the English department. |
