Al (Bud) Green was always interested in metals. Several other areas of interest
include woodworking, furniture design and construction, boat building and sailboats, and
welded steel and foundry work. His first introduction to jewelry and metalsmithing was in
the seventh grade. Two teachers in high school also influenced Green's interest in metal
working; Mr. Hansen, his metals instructor and Mr. Higgins his machine shop instructor. He
continued metal work in the machine shop in junior college. During college Green enrolled
in courses involving machine wood working, foundry and jewelry/metalsmithing. Green
continued his education in jewelry and metalsmithing at Cranbrook Academy of Art. Richard
Thomas was his professor. Ultimately, Green's education at Cranbrook greatly influenced
him.
Other important aspects of Green's life include his marriage to his wife, Sara and their
three children John, Nancy and Susan. Green's grandchildren, Christopher and Chandler, are
also very dear to him.
As an educator of jewelry and metalsmithing, Green provides his students with a creative
and technically equipped environment. Green believes, "The only way to have is
to give, the only way to keep is to share and the only thing worth funding is
opportunity." -George G. Booth |
