About C-PREP
|
Department of Public Health Sylvia Twersky -Bumgardner received her MPH in International Health and Development from Tulane University. Currently she is a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Public Health at Temple University as well as Project Director for C-PREP, working with the Pennsylvania Health Education Centers and Emergency Preparedness. Sylvia’s work has primarily involved the issues of health disparities, environmental health, and chronic disease. As Director of Environmental Health with the American Lung Association of the Central Coast (ALACC), she developed, implemented, and evaluated an asthma outreach and education program targeting migrant worker families as part of the statewide California Asthma Initiative. In addition, Sylvia worked on clinical quality improvement for childhood asthma management and treatment. In collaboration with the EPA and the US military, she participated as a community advocate in the Fort Ord environmental remediation process. She has acted as a program evaluation consultant for the ALACC. Working with the Southern Regional Area Health Education Center/ Duke University Family Medicine Residency program, Sylvia taught brief behavioral interventions for smoking cessation within a clinical setting. She has been a faculty member of the 2002 Asthma and COPD medical conference in Monterey, CA and a speaker at the 2002 CDC Living Well with Asthma Conference in Atlanta, GA.
