Training Sessions

Research Accounting Services provides 5 training sessions throughout the year. To register for a course and view upcoming dates, visit the Human Resources Learning and Development page. The sessions are:

  • Banner Basics for Grants: To participate in this course, access to Banner is required. This course is a hands on training session designed to provide an introduction to the basic functions of using the Banner Finance System. It will teach you how to obtain basic grant financial information and how that differs from other types of funds.
  • Effort Reporting System (ERS) for Pre-Reviewer and Post-Reviewers
    • Level 1 Beginner: This course will provide a look at the Maximus Effort Reporting System (ERS) and the duties required for the roles of the Pre and Post Reviewers. Users will learn the functions of pre-reviewing or post-reviewing or certification an effort form. This course will also instruct users on how to correctly prepare cost transfer or cost share entries via the ERS which will interface with Banner.
    • Level 2 Intermediate: This course will expand on the Level 1 Beginner course by explaining how to complete more intricate tasks such as the NIH salary cap fulfillment between multiple FOAPALs with or without an increase or decrease to an employee's effort, reclassifications between account codes, and negative pay scenarios in addition to smoother navigation of the cost transfer defined screen.
  • Research Accounting Services Brown Bag Sessions: This course is designed to enhance the understanding of Externally Sponsored Projects Management which comprises research compliance fundamentals.View PowerPoint presentations of past sessions.
  • Soup to Nuts: Managing a Sponsored Project: Learn how to navigate the complex arena of Sponsored Projects Administration. This session will provide Procedures and Processes Guidance through the lifecycle of the grant and contract process.
