Community Projects

Temple works with a number of leading community organizations in the Philadelphia area through in-kind and material support and by providing student, faculty and staff as volunteers. Youthbuild Philadelphia Charter School (External Link)
Youthbuild Philadelphia Charter School provides out-of-school youth in Philadelphia with the broadest range of tools, supports and opportunities to become self-sufficient, responsible, contributing members and leaders in their community. Students can earn their high school diplomas through a blend of rigorous academic curriculum and on-the-job training through community service. Big Brothers Big Sisters (External Link)
Temple has partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Pennsylvania to increase the number of Temple students volunteering in their mentorship program, raise funds and elevate awareness of the organization in Philadelphia. More than 125 Temple students currently participate in Big Brothers Big Sisters, serving as mentors to elementary school students in Philadelphia. The office of Community Relations is reaching out to students in order to promote increased participation in this remarkable program.

National Comprehensive Center for Fathers (NCCF) (External Link)
a. Temple has partnered with NCCF for the past several years through the university’s annual professional clothing drive. Clothing donated by Temple faculty, staff and students is distributed by NCCF to individuals in Philadelphia working to support their families by taking an active role in their families, and serving as positive role models.

Tree House Books (External Link)
Temple and Tree House Books work together to increase literacy in North Philadelphia. Temple provides Tree House with material donations, and student and faculty volunteers work to support individuals of all ages in learning to read and write. Tree House serves as a community hub immediately adjacent to Main Campus and offers summer and after school programs in literacy.
