Services for foreign language learners


For students who are studying foreign languages at Temple, we offer a variety of services designed to help them develop proficiency and fluency in the languages. These offerings change somewhat from semester to semester, based on staff availability. The list below reflects the services available as of Spring 2019. We currently offer support for students of Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish.

Arabic, French, German, Italian, and Japanese

Conversation Partners

Meet one-on-one with a fluent speaker of your target language to practice speaking and listening; to improve reading-comprehension; and to prepare for oral exams and presentations.

Open to Temple students in 1000-3000-level courses as well as students who are between coursework. Some base knowledge in the target foreign language is required.


Spanish

Writing Tutoring

The Spanish writing tutoring service provides one-on-one support for students who are working on papers for classes, as well as cover letters, resumes, scholarship essays, creative writing, and any other texts students are working on in Spanish.

Open to Temple students who have a background in Spanish and/or are enrolled in Spanish courses. For courses at the graduate level, please contact Liz at eursell@temple.edu to schedule.

Conversation Partners

Meet one-on-one with a fluent speaker of Spanish to practice speaking and listening; to improve reading comprehension in Spanish texts; to build vocabulary; to develop grammar skills; and to prepare for oral exams and presentations.

Open to Temple students in 1000 and 2000-level Spanish courses, and students who have a background in Spanish. For courses at the 3000 level up through graduate level, please contact Liz at eursell@temple.edu to schedule.


How to use these services

Make an appointment
  • Log-in to our appointment system, then select from the "For foreign languages" drop-down menu to find your target language
  • Select an available time
  • Sessions are 45-50 minutes long
  • Appointments must be made 24 hours in advance.
Walk-in
  • Come to Tuttleman 201 and check in at the reception desk
  • Sessions are 25 minutes long
