Graphic Designer

According to Computerworld, Temple University is one of the most desirable places to work in IT in the country. As a result, Temple €™s College of Liberal Arts receives generous funding for its Information Technology department, which enables us to create innovative new ways to combine technology and education.

We are able to provide CLA IT interns with hands-on experience using cutting-edge technology, including computer systems, software, and photography and film equipment. Numerous projects are currently in progress and tailored specifically to help you develop real-world skills in a fast-paced, professional working environment. You will work directly with CLA IT supervisors as well as CLA faculty, with the opportunity to customize projects to meet your specific strengths and skills.

Broad Area Projects:

  • College/Department Awareness and Promotion - increase awareness of College and IT department as well as web and campus presence through implementation of student photography, video, and writing
  • Website Development and Design - update and streamline current College/IT Department websites through implementation of writing and creative web design
  • Building and Classroom Management and Design - redevelopment of current classrooms and space utilization; plan and design all aspects of potential building expansion and renovation plans

The College of Liberal Arts is currently seeking applicants for internships that will begin in spring 2010. The internships are term-based and provide course credit if desired.

Position Description: The purpose of this position is to create website layouts as well as individual graphics for use on CLA websites and other electronic communication. This position is intended for undergraduate students seeking internship credits towards graduation, but non-credit internships will also be considered.

Typical Job Duties:

  • Developing the graphic and layout components of new CLA websites
  • Designing templates for electronic news letters
  • Researching current issues in design and usability with the goal of fully understanding the task at hand.

Qualifications:

  • Strong command of the English language
  • Excellent design and communication skills
  • Ability to adhere to all design standards
  • Proficiency with the Adobe Design Suite
  • General computer literacy
  • Strong sense of creativity
  • Preferred major in Graphic and Interactive Design or related field
  • Design portfolio (at least 3 projects)

For applicants seeking course credit, we require a time commitment of approximately 140 hours. This is equivalent to 20 hours per week during a seven-week summer session or 10 hours per week during a fall, spring or summer-long semester.
