Karen Jaffe, LSW

Project Manager, Counselor

karen.jaffe@temple.edu

I’m a Project Manager and Counselor at the HBRC.  I coordinate the clinical duties associated with the Philadelphia FRESH program and I assist Dr. Collins in managing all aspects of the Quit 4 Good treatment study.  I received my degree in social work from the University of Pennsylvania.  As a licensed social worker, most of my clinical experience is in addictions counseling, but as an HBRC manager, I enjoy participating in the research process as well.  As a clinical researcher, I also support the center in grant and manuscript preparation.

Natalie May Tolley, MSW

Research Coordinator

ntolley@temple.edu

I am the Project Coordinator for Philadelphia FRESH and coordinate the research activities of the project.  I received my MPH in Global Health from Yale University in 2006 and have experience and interests in health systems and chronic disease research – specifically in tobacco and obesity policy and programming.  I love working with the moms in Philadelphia FRESH and enjoy the antics of our HBRC staff.

Delscia Brown

Administrative Assistant

browndel@temple.edu

My role in the HBRC is as Dr. Collins’ assistant.  I also assist in the overall operations of the center.  My favorite part of the job is when all the budget numbers add up correctly.

Dawit Nehemia, BA

Data Manager

dawit.nehemia@temple.edu

Hi, I’m the data manager for the HBRC and also provide website development, office tech support, and assist the Director with data queries and basic data analyses.  I received my BA in business administration from Temple University.  My friends in the HBRC often joke that I alone am responsible for sustaining the financial success of a local coffee emporium.  This is untrue.

Sue Stauffer, BA

Community Outreach Specialist

suestauf@temple.edu

Hello, my job with the HBRC is to help build our connections to community organizations to facilitate access to patients and participants who would benefit most from our programs.  I received my BA at Kutztown University, and most of my professional experience has been in the area of fundraising and support of nonprofit organizations such as the MS society.

Nicole Strobel

nstrobel@temple.edu

As an undergraduate research assistant for the HBRC and FRESH Program, I have come to enjoy many different facets of my job.  However, my favorite part of my job is the interaction I have with participants.

Catherine Holdsworth, MSN, CRNP

catherine.holdsworth@temple.edu

I’m a Ph.D. Student in the Department of Public Health.  I work on the Quit 4 Good study as its nurse practitioner.  My areas of research interest are primarily in the areas of obesity and AIDS.

Katie Isselmann, MPH

kfi100@temple.edu

At the HBRC, I assist in research activities on the Philadelphia FRESH Project.  I recently received a MPH in Community Health Education from Temple University and am enrolled in the PhD program in Health Studies with a focus on Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology.  For my Master's thesis, I investigated the relationship between breastfeeding duration and smoking relapse prevention during the postpartum period.  I will continue research in this area as well as investigating other behavioral outcomes related to breastfeeding.

Darryl Mueller, MD

dmueller@ent.temple.edu

I am Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and am working on my MPH degree at Temple University.  I am interested in tobacco control and prevention and in learning behavioral counseling techniques to promote healthy behaviors and prevent disease.  As a graduate research assistant in the HBRC, I help with behavioral counseling on Philadelphia FRESH and Quit 4 Good.  I also assist recruiting maternal smokers in pediatric primary care.

Uma Nair, MA

uma.nair@temple.edu

While helping the HBRC team as a graduate research assistant with HBRC, I am currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Kinesiology (Psychology of Sport and Human Movement) at Temple University.  I support both the research and clinical activities of the Philadelphia FRESH program and Quit for Good.  My research interests involve exercise adherence issues such as motives, determinants, and barriers to exercise, personality and exercise behavior, and smoking cessation and exercise.
