Psychology Internship

Application Process

Application requirements include:

(1) Enrollment in a recognized and accredited doctoral program. Preference will be given to those in APA-approved Clinical and Counseling Psychology Programs who have had training in both evaluation and psychotherapy prior to the beginning of the internship.

(2) Completion of the APPIC universal application form. Please follow the APPIC application instructions and utilize your cover letter to answer how you envision Temple University Health Sciences Center meeting your training goals and interests?

(3) Three letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with your work, including at least one from a clinical supervisor. Please only send 3 letters. If your Director of Training writes a letter in addition to filling out the Readiness for Internship form, that counts as a letter and you only need to send two other letters.

(4) Transcript(s) of your graduate courses and grades; it is not necessary to forward transcripts from undergraduate work. In order to save money, you can send a copy of your transcript. We only ask that in your cover letter, or on the back of the transcript itself, that you indicate that the copy is a true, unchanged version of the original transcript. If you are matched with this site, we will require an official copy of your transcript prior to beginning the internship year.

(5) A copy of your curriculum vitae.

(6) Please check with your program regarding the acceptability of our evaluation policy. We provide a letter to programs twice a year (at the 6-month mark and end of the year) updating them on the progress of their interns. We also forward copies of our extensive evaluation forms to programs that request them.

Please do not send samples of testing reports with your application.

Letters of reference should be enclosed with the application, in envelopes with the writer's signature across the seal. If possible, the graduate transcript should be enclosed as well. As noted above, we will accept a copy of your transcript to expedite processing of your application.

Please send all application materials in one parcel to minimize the risk of an incomplete application. Letters of recommendation should be given to you, the applicant, to enclose with your application. We are not able to match letters of recommendation sent separately with their respective applicant’s application, as we do not “open files” for applicants to collate their materials. The internship director inspects each package and, if complete, circulates it to the program faculty for review. We are able to make an exception for transcripts if the issuing institution will not release them directly to the applicant.

The deadline for the receipt of materials is November 1, 2008. You are strongly encouraged to apply early. After review by the internship committee, interviews will be extended for interview days in January of 2009 (on the 5th, 12th, and 19th). Applicants will be notified by email of their interview status at 2pm (EST) on December 8, 2007. Those who are invited for an interview will then be allowed to email back a ranking of their preferred interview day(s). Applicant preferences for a particular day will be granted until the 10 interview slots per day are filled, whereupon they will be assigned their 2nd or 3rd preferred interview day. Interview slots go fast and an on-site interview is required, so interns who are interested in our program are encouraged to heed the above information. If you have not received e-mail confirmation that your application materials were received by November, 5th, please contact the training director.

Temple strictly adheres to the APPIC Policy on Internship Offers and Acceptances. This internship site agrees to abide by the APPIC policy that no person at this training facility will solicit, accept, or use any ranking-related information from any intern applicant.

Application materials should be sent to:
