Margaret M. (Maggie) Foley, PhD, RHIA, CCS
Clinical Associate Professor

Dr. Foley received her B.S. in Health Information Management in 1984 an MBA in Health Administration in 1994 and a PhD in Public Health in 2005 all from Temple University. Her research interests include birth certificate data quality, use of ICD-9-CM data, the role of clinical vocabularies such as the Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine (SNOMED) in the electronic health record and the implementation of the ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems.

Dr. Foley has over 20 years experience in various aspects of health information management. She has held the position of Director of Medical Records for a large acute care teaching hospital and a psychiatric facility. She has also had experience as a consultant for inpatient reimbursement and coding strategies. Ms. Foley also served as an interim manager for a physician billing company and gained valued managed care experience as the Director of Care Management for a physician-hospital organization.

Maggie has also held various volunteer positions in national, state and local health information management professional associations. Recently, she has served on the AHIMA ICD-10-CM Implementation Task Force, the AHIMA Clinical Terminology and Classification Practice Council and as a member of the PHIMA Executive Board. Dr. Foley also served as the ICD-9-CM coding instructor for a contract with the U.S. Department of Defense. The course was presented to approximately 90 personnel working at the various military medical centers and clinics throughout Europe.
