Mathews Thomas
P.T., D.P.T., M.S.P.T.

Mathews Thomas, PT, DPT, MSPT, CSCS, CKTP joined the Temple University faculty in 2007 and is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy.He is currently the Director of the Transitional DPT Program.

Dr. Thomas completed his BSPT at Florida A & M University in 1990, an Advanced MSPT (Orthopaedic Concentration) at Texas Woman’s University, Houston, Texas and his Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy at Temple University, Philadelphia, PA.

Dr. Thomas has worked as a PT both in the US & abroad in a variety of clinical settings such as a large general hospital, tertiary care hospital, out-patient facilities, SNF, and as a contract therapist. He was a Senior Physiotherapist, Deputy –in-charge of the Musculoskeletal Out-patient Department at a 1500 bed hospital in Singapore prior to beginning a career in education. He instructed BSPT & MPT students across the curriculum in the PT program at Florida A & M University for 8 years before coming to Temple University.

His currently teaches in several courses such as Clinical Decision Making, Clinical Management of Musculoskeletal Disorders I, II & III (with an emphasis on Manual Therapy and Differential Diagnosis), Clinical Examination and Intervention Skills I & II and Evidence Based Practice. He also teaches in the t-DPT program.

Dr. Thomas has diverse research interests in such areas as Orthopaedics, Biomechanics / Exercise, Manipulative Therapy, Kinesio Taping, Student Learning, Clinical Decision Making and Autism. He has published abstracts and articles in Physical Therapy, Journal of Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy, Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Practice and NeuroToxicology.  His most recent funded research work was related to Student Learning Styles.
