Public HealthPublic Health Graduate Student CouncilActivities • T-Shirt & Sweatshirt sales – At least once a year, the Student Council sells t-shirts and sweatshirts advertising Temple Public Health. The proceeds from these sales directly benefit the students by providing funds for student activities and scholarship (eg. Supporting student participation in state and national scientific meetings) • National Public Health Week – Each year, the Student Council will host events for the Temple Community that coincide with the theme for National Public Health Week. In Spring 2007 (April 2-8), the theme was “Take the First Step: Preparedness and Public Health Threats.” The Student Council distributed daily tips to the entire Temple Community on how to be prepared and address potential threats to our health. • Student-Faculty Research Social – At the beginning of each semester, the Student Council hosts an informal social for students and faculty to gather and discuss research projects and potential opportunities for student involvement. In addition to the faculty members from the Department of Public Health, there are a number of professors with secondary appointments and collaborators who have attended, thereby extending the range of research opportunities. There was great turn out from faculty, staff, students, alumni, families and friends. Whether participants ran or walked, everyone had a great time. The Student Council hopes to continue this event on an annual basis. The proceeds from the event will be used to help defer the costs associated with student participation in research and publications.
The Student Council also provides student representation at Faculty meetings within the department, Temple Student Government general assembly meetings, and Philadelphia Public Health Student Council meetings. We look forward to further involvement within the college and university, and welcome suggestions and participation from students, faculty, and alumni. |
