Public Health Graduate Student Council

Delta Omega

Overview:
Delta Omega is the national honorary society for graduate studies in public health. The society was founded in 1924 and now has chapters at 54 of the accredited schools providing advanced public health degrees. Policies are made by the National Council which is composed of elected officers and representatives from each chapter; the National Council meets annually and usually coincides with the Annual Meeting of the American Public Health Association.

Each chapter of Delta Omega is expected to perform basic activities, including electing officers and inducting new members who are students eligible for a graduate degree in public health, faculty members in public health, and alumni actively engaged in public health activities. Membership in Delta Omega requires leadership and outstanding performance as well as scholarship in students, teaching and research in faculty members, and community service in alumni. Election to membership in Delta Omega is intended not only to recognize merit, but also to encourage further excellence in and devotion to public health work.

The Department of Public Health at Temple University was pleased to establish the Beta Theta Chapter of Delta Omega in 2006.

Activities:
Each Chapter of Delta Omega determines their activities for the year. The Beta Theta Chapter participates in the Annual Thesis and Dissertation Awards and the Curriculum Awards through the National Delta Omega Office. In addition, the Chapter holds bi-annual meetings, an Annual Delta Omega lecture, and works in collaboration with other student organizations within the College on community-based projects. However, each year, the members of the Chapter vote on the activities for the upcoming year, so be sure to check back on this site often to see what’s going on.
