The Public Health Department has expanded rapidly in recent
years, building an impressive portfolio of federally-funded
research and adding several vibrant graduate programs,
including a new PhD in Public Health, to complement its innovative
undergraduate training program. To continue this momentum, we
are seeking a department chair who has held a leadership role in
an academic program, department or research unit; is eligible for
a tenured appointment at the Professor or Associate Professor
level; brings a distinguished record of funded research and nationally
recognized scholarship; and has demonstrated a commitment to

The Department of Public Health excels as a regional and
national leader by fostering interdisciplinary collaboration
among researchers, educators, community practitioners, and
private sector leaders. We strive to address community
health needs in a global community to eliminate health
disparities, and to increase the quality and years of
healthy life. The Department of Public Health promotes and
protects public health through quality education, research,
and service. We emphasize disease prevention and treatment,
empowerment, and collective as well as individual
responsibility for health and health care. Our collaborative
partnerships contribute to meeting local, state, national
and global public health needs through conducting research,
training a diverse workforce, and promoting excellence in
practice.
The Department offers a unique Bachelors of Science degree
in public health that is a national model. We offer several
master's programs designed for emerging and experienced
professionals to obtain leadership positions in health
promotion and epidemiologic research, health policy, and
program administration. Offered are the M.S. in
Epidemiology, M.S. in Environmental Health, a Masters in
Clinical Research and Translational Medicine, the Master of
Public Health (M.P.H.) with specialization options in social
and behavioral sciences, epidemiology, environmental health,
and global health and a Master of Education with emphasis on
school health and health counseling. There is also a Ph.D.
in Public Health with concentrations in social/behavioral
sciences and environmental health/health policy.
