The focus of this PhD program is to prepare faculty (academicians and researchers) for the field of physical therapy. We welcome students with a broad range of clinical interests. The program provides students with the theoretical underpinnings of clinical practice, introduces students to a broad spectrum of research strategies and prepares students to teach in academic settings. Temple University and the program in physical therapy have a sustained record of providing opportunities for students from disadvantaged and traditionally underrepresented ethnic backgrounds to prepare for roles as clinicians, academicians, and researchers.

Degree requirements include 66 semester hours of required and elective coursework beyond the entry-level baccalaureate or master’s degree. The PhD curriculum, course descriptions, and program faculty are listed here. Students may take up to 3 courses before formally applying to the program.

Courses will be offered evenings, weekends, in 1-2 week intensives and on-line so that students can maintain part-time clinical practice while being engaged in doctoral studies. Students can complete this program in a minimum of 6 years while maintaining at least part time practice in a clinical setting (2 courses Fall and Spring and 1 course Summer semesters).

Please contact the Program Director with questions about the program. If you are interested in taking one of the PHD courses as a non-matriculated student, please download and complete this form (Non-matric request) and fax it attention of the Program Director at 215-707-7500.
