Admission Requirements and Procedures

The following courses or their equivalents must be completed prior to admission:

    • KN1223:  Anatomy & Physiology I

    • KN1224:  Anatomy & Physiology II*

    • KN1442:  Basic Techniques in Athletic Training†

    • KN1444:  Movement Injuries: Care & Prevention

* May be currently enrolled in

† May be taking in spring of sophomore year

 

    • Applicants must have completed their freshman year prior to admission.
    • Students should have completed 50 hours of observation of a certified athletic trainer.
    • Students should have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.25, 2.5, and 3.0 GPA in cumulative/departmental/athletic training courses.
    • Students are required to have current Professional Rescuer CPR/First Aid certification.
    • Students must show proof of a physical examination prior to application.
    • Students must have proof of immunizations as required by the College of Health Professions.

 Application Procedures

  • Students must complete the application and include the following items:

    • Application form (request from Program Director)
    • A statement explaining why you want to be an athletic trainer, career goals, and the attributes you possess that will make you successful in life and in athletic training
    • Verification of your observation hours
    • Proof of physical and immunizations on the College of Health Professions form

  • Applications must be received by the Temple University Kinesiology department by May 10th of each year.

 

 

Written Statement

Format

              a.  Title page should include name and Temple ID number

              b.  Second page should be the beginning of your essay

              c.  Type-written, 12-font, 1” margins

              d.  Maximum of two double-spaced pages

              e.  Include the following:

                     1)  Why you want to be an athletic trainer

                     2)  Career goals

                     3)  The attributes you possess that will make you       successful in life and in the field of athletic training

Probation

All applicants will remain on probationary status through the fall semester of their sophomore year.  Students who meet academic requirements (cum GPA 2.25, department GPA 2.5, major GPA 3.0), pass their athletic training courses with a minimum C-, and complete the 125 clinical experience hours will have the probationary status removed.  Those students who are not meeting 1 or more standards will be required to attend study hall on a weekly basis during the spring semester and may be removed from clinical experience.  Students who do not meet all standards for a 2nd semester will be asked to leave the program.

 

 

IMPORTANT:

All AT students must receive a physical and be up to date on their immunization. They must also be certified in CPR.
