-Psychology of Human Movement

The exercise and sport psychology specialization may be found within the Psychology of Human Movement in the Behavioral Sciences area in the Department of Kinesiology. Students specializing in exercise and sport psychology focus on the scientific study of human behavior in exercise and sport, as well as other forms of human movement. Students engage in theory, research, and practice in a diverse set of areas. These include:
(1) performance enhancement, especially in sport;
(2) life skills, especially time management/study skills, coping with athletic injury, alcohol and drug use/abuse and eating disorders:
(3) motivation and adherence, as well as addiction to exercise;
and (4) a host of other areas, such as gender issues in sport, developmental issues, and professional and ethical issues in applied sport psychology. Although courses are offered at the undergraduate level, the primary focus of the program is on graduate (master's and doctoral level) education.
