Communication Sciences and Disorders

Communications Sciences and Disorders prepares undergraduate and graduate students to demonstrate knowledge of human language as an abstract system of communication, as well as the anatomical and physiological base that enables us to understand and produce language. Central to this is an understanding of the forms and contexts of language across the life span and across diverse populations, mastery of which provides a foundation for advanced study in various disciplines. Graduate students in Speech-Language Pathology develop scientifically, clinically and culturally appropriate competences in the prevention, assessment and treatment of communication disorders, while graduate students in Linguistics develop analytical reasoning and argumentation skills in the major components of linguistic theory.
