Communication Sciences and Disorders
Speech-Language-Hearing
Introduction
The undergraduate program in Speech-Language-Hearing provides a comprehensive understanding of the physical, biological, psychological, and linguistic bases of speech, language, and hearing. The program examines the use of these functions in pedagogic, professional, and social settings. Students interact with instructors who are theorists, researchers, and clinicians. Graduates will be able to apply their knowledge to careers concerned with social service and special education or graduate study in a variety of fields, including one that leads to professional credentials as a Speech-Language Pathologist and/or Audiologist.
The Departmental facilities in Weiss Hall include laboratories for research in language and language disorders, speech, voice and hearing sciences and disorders, as well as the Speech-Language-Hearing Center for the diagnosis and treatment of communication disorders, and faculty offices. Undergraduates have the opportunity to participate in research and to observe therapy in the Center. There is an active chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association, which is open to all students in the S-L-H Track and sponsors various activities of interest to students.
