The College of Health Professions excels as a regional and national leader in education of health professionals and innovative health-related research. The College fosters interdisciplinary collaboration among students, staff, industry leaders, clients and the community to better address health needs, eliminate disparities in care, increases lifespan and improve quality of life. HistoryTemple University College of Health Professions was founded in 1966 to meet the growing need for highly skilled professionals, and continues to adapt today to increasingly sophisticated needs as it leads the design and delivery of effective health care programs through education, training, research and service. Multidisciplinary EnvironmentThe College of Health Professions benefits from proximity to Temple School of Medicine and Dentistry on the Health Sciences Campus, as well as Temple University Hospital and Temple Children’s Hospital. Immersed in the activity of the major metropolitan health center, students perspective extends beyond their own programs. In addition, most health professions programs include at least some work on Temple’s Main Campus, located one mile south. This combined environment expands students’ intellectual exposure, enhances learning, encourages scientific inquiry, sharpens clinical performance and produces professionals who are intellectually and practically prepared to work in a collaborative setting. Positive Impact on RegionTemple’s location benefits its students and health professions in the region. Students’ learning is enhanced by the invaluable practical experience available in an area known for innovation and excellence in health care. At the same time, health care providers gain valuable service from Temple students as they complete required clinical assignments in hospitals, health departments, human service and community-based agencies, laboratories, manufacturing, university and other health-related entities. Many graduates continue to live and work in the Philadelphia region, often combining career with ongoing education. Among 2003 Health Professions graduates who responded to a Temple University survey, 65% were employed, 15% were attending graduate school and 13% were doing both. More than 62% of respondents were employed in the five county Philadelphia area. Academic Quality & ScopeThe College of Health Professions offers fully accredited undergraduate and graduate programs in seven areas, including eight bachelors, nine masters and five doctoral degrees.(Department Descriptions. |
