KinesiologyPrograms And DegreesWhy and how we move, what influences our movements, and what they in turn influence-all of these are of interest to Kinesiology, the study of human movement. As such, human movement is integral to the human experience, and Kinesiology examines it from the simplest molecular event to the most complex psychomotor action. The mission of the Department of Kinesiology is to advance comprehensive inquiry into, and understanding of, human movement in all of its forms and applications. Undergraduate students in Kinesiology take courses in three broad areas: the University Core, a Kinesiology Core, and a professional application program. The Discipline of Kinesiology involves the study of a core of courses that explore the basic concepts and skills needed to understand how and why humans move. Students can apply these concepts and skills in a variety of professional endeavors. The Department offers professional preparation programs in athletic training, exercise and sport science, teaching (PHETE), and pre-professional studies. Graduate programs in Kinesiology consist of the Master of Education and the Doctor of Philosophy in Kinesiology. Both the Master's and Doctor's degrees are offered in two areas of the discipline: Somatic Sciences (Athletic Training/Sports Medicine and Exercise Physiology) and Behavioral Sciences (Curriculum and Instruction and Psychology of Human Movement). Undergraduate (Bachelor of Science/B.S.) Athletic Training (Bachelor Athletic Training/BAT) |
