Margaret C. Wang is Professor of Educational Psychology and the founder and current Director of the Center for Research in Human Development and Education (CRHDE) at Temple University. She is recognized nationally and internationally for her research on learner differences and effective school responses to student diversity; resiliency among children and families in high-risk environments; and research on the implementation and evaluation of innovative research-based approaches to school reform,
Professor Wang received her Ph.D. in child development and educational research from the University of Pittsburgh. She was among the first group of recipients of the Spencer Fellowship of the National Academy of Education in recognition of her early career contributions to the theory and practice of education. In 1998, Dr. Wang was elected as a member of the prestigious International Academy of Education, in recognition of her contribution to urban school reform.
Professor Wang has published 18 books and over 100 articles and monographs and is the developer of the Community for Learning Model (CFL) for school reform. CFL was cited as one of the 17 research-based comprehensive school reform programs in the congressional report for the comprehensive school reform legislation enacted in 1997, and is implemented in over 200 school districts across the country.
Since the inception of CRHDE, Professor Wang has attracted leading scholars and policy makers in collaborative research and development projects across the country. She has brought close to 100 million dollars in external funds to support the work of CRHDE, since its inception in 1986. Among the notable awards were the establishment of the National Center on Education in the Inner Cities and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Educational Laboratory for Student Success at CRHDE, by the U.S. Department of Education. Temple University enjoys the distinction of being the only university that has ever been awarded both a national R&D center and a regional educational laboratory by the U.S. Department of Education.
