More about CGEP's purposes

The Center provides a focus for new ethics and social justice initiatives that extend in impact across Temple University and other institutions as well, by developing courses or course modules on global ethics issues concerning the disciplines or professions and generating new collaborative research about the ethical, social, and political implications of their practices. The Center plans to co-sponsor lectures and symposia on contemporary problems in applied ethics, including social ethics, in collaboration with other units at Temple University. Members of the broader community are also invited to participate in these programs. The Center is also engaged in the development of new courses or programs of study in human rights, political philosophy, global citizenship and applied ethics.

In addition to pursuing research and curricular innovation, the Center serves as a resource to members of the Temple community and beyond it who are interested in studying ethical issues and codes of ethics. It has begun the process of linking its activities with other centers for applied ethics and globalization research in the greater Philadelphia area, in the U.S., and internationally. It also supports in part The Journal of Social Philosophy, edited by Prof. Gould and published by Blackwells, which publishes new theoretical research in global ethics and politics.
