TEACHER INFORMATION

Dear Teacher:

Welcome to the “Teacher-to-Teacher” Resource Page

The George Washington Carver Science Fair Committee helps teachers conduct their own school science fairs, prepare their students for the Carver Science Fair, exchange ideas with their colleagues – and more! “Teacher-to-Teacher” is an informal, virtual Resource Center in which teachers can share science fair documents, suggestions, past mistakes, and anything to assist others in navigating the science fair process. The Carver Committee is particularly interested in posting original materials but will include anything that teachers might find helpful. Photographs are also welcome, although parental permission must be obtained if children’s images are included.

 Science fair resources are divided into the following categories:

• General Information (comprehensive science fair handbooks, overall time-lines, science fair descriptions for general distribution, and other miscellaneous items)

• Communicating with School Staff (informational letters to other teachers, set-up directions for custodial staff, etc.)

• Communicating with Parents (initial letters to parents, permission slips, and similar materials)

• Working with Judges (judges recruitment letters, agendas for judges’ orientations, sample scoring rubrics, post-fair thank-you notes, etc.)

• Alerting the Media (time-lines, press releases, etc.)

• Tips for Students (suggested science fair projects, lists of useful websites, important dates to remember, and other advice and alerts)

• Preparing for the Carver Fair (brief Carver Fair descriptions, travel directions to the Academy and/or Temple, etc.)

• Conducting a Scientific Inquiry with Your Students (articles, guidelines, and rubrics for doing science fair projects and classroom research projects)
