The Extern Program deadline for Spring 2008 has passed.

Introduction

Thank you for your interest in the Extern Program. The Extern Program is a work experience/career education program designed to aid students in making informed career decisions based on practical experience.

Eligibility

You are eligible to participate in the program if you have earned a minimum of 30 credits and have a minimum GPA of 2.5. You will concurrently enroll and attend a Career Education Seminar. Attendance at the course seminar is mandatory. You can earn 2 or 3 credits for successful completion of their work experience and academic assignments. If you are electing the 2 credit option, you must complete 40 placement hours with an employer. If you are electing 3 credits, you must complete 60 placement hours.

Important Information

Please take note of the following:
  1. Extern credits are considered free elective credits (non-business).
  2. The Extern Program is counted as a spring semester course.
  3. The credits received by Communication majors will not count toward the total number of credits required for graduation.
  4. The course grade attained is based on completion of all requirements including class assignments and the sponsoring employer's evaluation.
  5. Neither acceptance into the program or placement with an employer is guaranteed.
  6. All placements are unpaid.

Registration

Registration for the course will be handled in the following manner:

The course instructor will complete the registration for the course after you have signed the contract for extern placement. You cannot drop the Extern course once it appears on your Spring Semester 2008 roster. By accepting the Extern placement, you have made a commitment to the employer-sponsor who is planning a career-based program. If the total number of credits, including the Extern Course, exceeds 17, you will be billed for the additional credits.
