Campus Recreation has always placed a priority on the development of students through employment and leadership positions within the department. In the Fall of 2004 Campus Recreation created a Student Staff Development component. The focus of this program is the development of our student staff through a variety of initiatives. These initiatives are:

  • Workplace Safety
  • Student Staff Training
  • Student Staff Development and Advisory Committee (SSDAC)
  • Student Staff Recognition
  • Student Leadership
  • Community Services

This program is dynamic and comprehensive. As a student, you have access to a rich variety of interactive leadership development programs, educational options and training experiences that will inspire and transform. The Leadership Challenge includes a menu of interactive and engaging opportunities for students to learn and practice leadership. The curriculum includes academic courses, seminars, service opportunities, leadership conferences, and a leadership institute. Students may participate in the experience to explore leadership topics or challenge themselves to reach their full leadership potential. Students may earn their way to the LeaderShape Institute by participating in various leadership activities throughout the year and submitting Leadership Diamonds as part of a portfolio.
