The National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) is a non-profit professional organization dedicated to the establishment and development of quality recreational sports programs and services. Founded in 1950, the Association’s membership has evolved to form a network of highly trained professionals in the recreational sports field throughout the United States, Canada and other countries around the world. Representing thousands of individuals and organizations, the NIRSA serves as the leading advocate for excellence in recreational sports programming and services.

The Association’s membership is comprised of professionals involved in programming at the collegiate level, in the military, correctional institutions, corporations, community and elementary/middle/secondary schools. The major professional responsibilities of the NIRSA membership include the administration of informal sports, fitness programming, recreational facility operations, fiscal and personnel management, sport clubs, intramurals, outdoor recreation and wellness programs.
