What facilities fall under Campus Recreation? The IBC Student Recreation Center, Pearson Hall Pools 30 & 31, the Student Pavilion, Geasey Field & the outdoor track, outdoor tennis complex, & the sand volleyball court at the Pavilion.

Do I have access to Campus Recreation’s facilities? Undergrad students who are taking 12 or more credits per semester and grad students who are taking 9 or more credits per semester automatically have their Rec Access Fee accessed to their bill and have access to all of our facilities. Undergrad students taking less than 12 credits and grad students taking less than 9 must manually pay the Rec Access Fee in order to receive facility access.

How do I pay the Rec Access Fee? Full-time students (minimum 12 credits for undergraduates, 9 credits for graduate students) are automatically assessed the fee in their tuition. Students who are registered as part-time students (i.e. less than the minimum number of credits listed above) must pay the $30 fee at the Bursar’s Office, then bring the Bursar’s receipt to the Main Office, Suite 102 McGonigle Hall, to complete a Patron Application and receive access privileges. Or you can have the fee added to your tuition bill by visiting the Campus Recreation Main Office directly by choosing the “Add to Tuition” option on the Patron Application.

When can I come in to sign up for Campus Recreation access? Can I pay per semester, or do I have to pay an annual fee? You may sign up at any time during business hours at any time during the semester. Our Main Office hours are 8:00am – 6:00pm Monday – Thursday, and 8:00am – 5:00 pm Fridays (closed Saturdays and Sundays). Typically patrons may begin applying for Campus Recreation Access approximately one week before the start of the semester.

Patrons may choose to pay per semester or annually.

What facilities will I have access to? Paying the Campus Recreation Fee entitles patrons (students, faculty, staff and alumni) to use the IBC Student Rec Center, the Student Pavilion and Pearson Hall Pools. Additionally, patrons can use The Student Rec Center at the Health Science Campus and the Red Barn at Ambler.

What is the Main Office? The Main Office is the location of Campus Recreation Administration. The primary departmental administrative officers are located within the Main Office, and all access applications and general program registration may be completed here.

What are the Main Office hours? The Main Office is open Monday – Thursday, 8:00am to 6:00pm, and Fridays 8:00am to 5:00pm. We are closed Saturdays and Sundays.

Does Campus Recreation offer guest passes for the facilities? Guest passes may be purchased at the Main Office, IBC Student Rec Center or Student Pavilion. Guest passes may be used in the IBC Student Rec Center, the Student Pavilion and the Pearson Hall Pools.

Students, faculty and staff who have purchased Campus Rec Access privileges. Alumni do not have guest pass privileges.

Eligible patrons may purchase up to three (3) guest passes per day. Campus Rec patrons MUST accompany their guest(s) at all times when inside the Campus Recreation facilities.

What Intramural sports do you offer? Flag Football, Soccer (indoor & outdoor), Softball, Dodgeball, Floor Hockey, Volleyball, Hi-comp Basketball and Low-comp Basketball. In all activities there is a Men’s, Women’s and Co-Rec division offered.

How many people do I need to start an intramural team? Minimum requirements vary by sport. Rules and participant requirements can be found by clicking on the “Intramurals” link, then click on “Leagues” on the left-hand menu. Choose the particular sport in which you are considering, then click on “Rules”. All rules have a “Players” section that will tell you the minimum amount of participants needed.

I do not have enough people to start my own team. Can I still participate in intramurals? Yes. If you do not have enough people to start a team, or are unable to find a team to play on, we offer an option of becoming a free agent. Complete a Free Agent Form online by clicking here.

I am on Temple’s soccer team. Can I play intramural soccer also? No. If a student is a member of an NCAA team or a club sport team, he/she may not participate in the corresponding intramural sport. Ineligible student athletes are defined as any team member listed on the official NCAA or Club roster as of the first game of the season. This roster will generally include any red-shirts and/or partial-qualifiers. For other player eligibility concerns, please refer to the Intramural Handbook.

Can I play for more than one intramural team? Participants may only play for one team of a particular league division. Leagues are defined as particular sports; flag football, softball, volleyball, etc. Divisions are gender specific; men’s, women’s and co-rec (which both men and women play on). For example, a male student may play for a men’s and co-rec team for flag football, but can’t play for two different co-rec flag football teams.

Additionally, a student may play in multiple leagues that compete at the same time. For example, a student may play for a team for both flag football and soccer. However, certain leagues play on the same night, and it is the responsibility of the individual participant to manage their intramural schedule.

How do I register my team? Team roster/waiver forms are available at the Main Office, Suite 102, McGonigle Hall. To enter a team, complete all the necessary information and submit it with the required deposit before the entry deadline for that particular sport. Late entries, if accepted into the league, will not be eligible for a refund.

How much does it cost to register my team? To register an intramural team, there is a mandatory $40 deposit (Hi-Comp basketball is $80). Team deposits are refundable. Deposits will not be refunded for the following reasons: failure to attend captains meetings, forfeit, fighting, failure to fill out refund form or late entry.

Do intramurals take place rain or shine? The Intramural Coordinator shall make decisions regarding rainouts/cancellation of contests. Rainouts/cancellations will typically be made by 5:00 pm for night contests. Campus Recreation will call the team captains in this situation. If players call the Intramural office (215 204-6919) after 6pm, a phone recording will inform callers of the cancellations. If a game is in progress, the supervisor will make decisions determining weather cancellations.

Do I have to bring my own sport equipment? Intramurals provides the equipment necessary for each particular sport. Participants are allowed to bring their own equipment as long as it meets the particular sport requirements. For instance, baseballs may not be used instead of softballs.

Where can I work out on campus? The main workout facility for Main Campus is the IBC Student Rec Center (IBC), located at 15th and Montgomery Streets ( 1701 N 15th St). Students, Employees and Alumni who have a valid Owl Card can access the center after they have paid the Campus Rec Fee.

The 59,000 sq. ft. IBC has:
3-lane indoor track
4 racquetball courts
2 aerobics rooms
2 fitness areas that include: Selectorized equipment, Free weights, Stretching/AB & Back area, Cardiovascular Equipment, Indoor Climbing Wall, Adapted Recreation Equipment.

Do you offer Group Fitness Classes, where are they offered and how much do they cost? There are non-credit Group Fitness sessions held on Main Campus at the IBC Student Rec Center (1701 N 15th St) and Pearson Hall Pool #30 at various times throughout the semester. These sessions are open to all students, employees and alumni who have paid their rec access fee.

You do not have to sign up for any of the session, just stop by to get a good work out. Sessions are limited to room capacity and there is typically a line waiting to enter sessions after 4pm.

Is there a place that I can play basketball at Campus Recreation? The Student Pavilion has four multi-purpose indoor basketball courts on which Campus Recreation patrons may play recreational basketball. What opportunities are there to play volleyball? Indoor volleyball may be played at the Student Pavilion Friday evenings during Net Night, which runs from 7:00pm – 10:00pm. There is no need to sign up in advance, and you do not need to have a team to play. Outdoor volleyball may be played at any time on the sand volleyball court, located at the corners of 15th and Norris Streets. Can I borrow equipment from the Student Pavilion? What type of equipment is available? Equipment is available at the Student Pavilion for participants who have paid the Campus Rec Access Fee and present their valid Temple ID (Owl Card). Available equipment for loan at the Student Pavilion includes indoor and outdoor volleyballs, basketballs, badminton equipment, footballs, table tennis equipment and indoor soccer equipment.

How competitive are Sport Clubs? The Sport Clubs vary in scope and nature. Some clubs are very competitive, and frequently compete against other schools in the region, area and nation, while others are more recreational in nature.

Who is eligible to play Sport Clubs? Sport Club participation is restricted to Temple University students who are currently registered. Some clubs require undergraduate status as well to participate, while others allow both graduate and undergraduate students. Do you have to tryout to be in a Sport Club? Some Sport Clubs do have tryouts, while others do not. Overall, the more competitive the club, the more likely they will have tryouts before accepting interested participants. Do the Sport Clubs compete against other universities? Many of our Sport Clubs compete against other colleges, universities or organizations, some more regularly than others. Competitions vary according to the nature of the club, the time of year (in season, off season), the interests of the club members to compete, and any affiliations or leagues the clubs may be a part of. To obtain more information about the typical season for the club you are interested in, contact the Sport Club Representative through the Sport Club page.

Are there any costs involved in participating in Sport Clubs? Typically the cost for a student to participate in Sport Clubs is minimal. However, certain clubs require more funding than others, depending on their level of competition, the nature of the sport in general (equipment, liability risks, venues, etc.), and any travel necessary to attend tournaments and national championships. What times are practices typically? How often do they practice? Practices for Sport Clubs depend on available facility space and the specific needs of each club. Most practices are held on various evenings during the week, generally two to four times a week per club. Specific times and days vary per semester. Do Sport Clubs have seasons, or are they played throughout the year? Some of the Sport Clubs participate seasonally, while others are active throughout the academic year. However, all Sport Clubs are active in some capacity during both the fall and spring semesters. Where do I sign up to play a Sport Club? Do I need to bring any personal information? To sign up for a Sport Club, come to the Main Office (Suite 102 McGonigle Hall) during business hours (Monday – Thursday, 8am-6pm; Friday 8am-5pm) and sign a Sport Club Participant Waiver and obtain the contact information of the Sport Club Representative.

Are Sport Clubs run by the university, or are they student organizations? Both. Sport Clubs are first and foremost student-run and student-initiated, and many of the decisions of the clubs are overseen by the student participants themselves. However, the Sport Club program is represented by Campus Recreation, a department within the Temple University Division of Student Affairs. All administrative, financial, and liability decisions are overseen and enforced by Campus Recreation, and Sport Club Representatives serve as liaisons between the clubs and the Sport Club Coordinator.

Are there any academic standards required for Sport Clubs? Most Sport Clubs only require that students are currently enrolled for classes at Temple University, and maintain their status as Temple students through the entire semester(s) in which they are participating. However, some of the more competitive clubs, such as Ice Hockey, are members of affiliations or conferences which enforce G.P.A. requirements and a minimum credit enrollment.
