Training ProgramsCenter for Asian Health provides training and education opportunities for junior researchers and community partners interested in Asian health issues. The AJITM provides community-based research training and mentorship for junior professionals in a broad range of health disparity issues. To date, Center for Asian Health and affiliate research institutions have trained and mentored 81 Asian junior researchers, 14 of whom attaining high levels of competency to become Special Population Network investigators who assumed lead roles in designing, developing and conducting pilot research projects as well as in the preparation of manuscripts for publication. Junior researchers also receive training and mentorship in development of evaluation instruments, design of educational curricula, as well as in the conduct of community education workshops and other activities that enhance career development. The TCBCP focuses on special skills training on a variety of health-related issues of particular concern to community partners. The hands-on training program includes training in project development, implementation and evaluation. Mini- and small-grant mechanisms are used to encourage community partners to define local needs and to respond to them creatively. The aim of the training program is to empower partners, increase their knowledge and awareness of health and health disparity issues and to ensure sustainability of CAH's network programs. Generation of Asian Leadership (GOAL), an Asian youth council, established by and associated with Center for Asian Health, encourages Asian adolescents to participate in the Center's region-wide anti-tobacco and health prevention effort. GOAL assists youth in project design, planning, and implementation as well as provides youth with knowledge about health risks. The council meets once a month to plan community and school-based health activities for Asian youth. Center youth partners are encouraged to apply for mini- and small-grants to implement innovative community- or school-based projects.
