Job Title Research Coordinator
Job Description

Center for Asian Health (CAH), Department of Public Health, College of Health Professions, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, will accept applications for a full -time Research Coordinator position. CAH is one of the first in the U.S. dedicated to reducing cancer and other health disparities in Asian American populations. CAH's mission is to raise the physical, mental and social health of Asian Americans to the highest possible level. The Center's ultimate goal is to facilitate the provision of culturally and linguistically appropriate comprehensive health services to Asian Americans.

The candidate will work with renowned behavioral health scientists on NIH-funded RO1 and UO1 projects, a Center team of researchers knowledgeable in Asian cultures and languages, and an established base of academic, clinical and community partners. CAH projects are community-based and participatory in nature. For detailed information on CAH, please refer to our site. The Research Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating and monitoring the implementation of research projects, ensuring that projects achieve their goals and objectives in a timely manner.

The Research Coordinator will also assist in grant writing, data analyses, manuscript and report preparation, supervise project staff and graduate students, and have liaison responsibilities with CAH partners.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications for the position include:

  • Masters in Public Health, Psychology, and/or in a health or social science-related field
  • Two years of experience in managing or coordinating research activities
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and multiethnic staff, and to initiate and develop research collaboratively and independently to further advance CAH mission and goals

The candidate should be a detailed-oriented individual with strong organizational and multi -tasking skills. Communication skills especially in writing and dissemination of research findings are required. Evidence of scholarly productivity is desirable.

Although not a requirement of the position, knowledge of an Asian language or Asian cultures is desirable.

Job Title Community Health Educator(s)
Job Description

The Center for Asian Health at Temple University has openings for qualified candidates to serve as Community Health Educator(s). The successful candidate will assist in planning, coordinating and implementing community health educational programs for Asian American populations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contact and coordinate with Asian community collaborators to arrange and organize health related programs for Asian youth and adults; help with program participants' recruitment.
  • Conduct smoking prevention workshops for Asian youth and adults.
  • Conduct smoking cessation program for Asian youth and adults.
  • Conduct health and cancer educational workshops/activities for Asian adults.
  • Implement project process evaluation activities.
  • Provide skill training and technical assistance for staff of community collaborators.
  • Assist in project report preparation.
  • Assist in health educational material design and development in Asian languages.
  • Respond to other responsibilities as necessary.
Job Requirements

Experience in working with Asian community preferred. Highly motivated and organized. With knowledge and skills in health related discipline. Strong in working independently and in-team environment. Fluent in writing and speaking in English and one Asian language (preferred Vietnamese or Korean), prefer BA/S or Master's degrees, experience can be compensated with education.

Job Title Vietnamese Community Health Educator
Job Description

The Center for Asian Health at Temple University has openings for qualified candidates to serve as Vietnamese Community Health Educator. The successful candidate will assist in planning, coordinating and implementing community health educational programs for Vietnamese American populations.

Job Description

The Center for Asian Health is accepting applications for a Research Internship position. The successful candidate will participate in a variety of cancer and tobacco control research and community-based field activities including literature searching, data collection, research program implementation, community outreach, and delivery of community educational workshops.

The successful candidate must be able to work as a member of a team, while having the ability to work independently. Qualifications include:

Education:

Applicants must be at least junior or senior undergraduate students pursuing careers in Public Health, Community Health, Health Education, Health/clinical Psychology, Sociology, or a related Health Behavioral Science Field. A Masters degree in these areas is preferred. Bilingual ability (an Asian language) is highly desirable.

Job Title Post-Doctoral Fellowship
Job Description

The Center for Asian Health is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow. This position is dedicated to research in tobacco-related cancer prevention/intervention and smoking cessation among Asian American populations with a broad focus on various culturally appropriate approaches and skills. The successful candidate will work with the Principal Investigator and other senior research members and participate in research program development, research design, research evaluation tools development, program implementation, data analysis, grant proposal and research manuscript preparation.

Job Requirements

Candidate for the position must be able to work as a member of a team, while having the ability to work independently. Qualifications include:

Education:

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree (e,g. Ph.D., Dr. PH, EdD, or MD or equivalent qualifications) in Public or Community Health, Health Education, Health/Clinical Psychology, Sociology, or a related Health Behavioral Science Field. Demonstrated knowledge of and/or background in Asian culture are desirable. Bilingual ability (an Asian language) is a plus.

Skills- Experience:

Candidates must demonstrate: capabilities in written and oral communication and interpersonal skills; experience and skills in research design, statistical data analysis, and publications; familiarity with minority health issues (preferred); and strong organizational abilities.

Job Title Research Assistants
Job Description

The Center for Asian Health has an opening for a qualified candidate to serve as Research Assistant. The successful candidate will participate in a variety of cancer and tobacco control research and community-based field activities including:

  1. Research on the development of cancer and tobacco control programs, evaluation of the effectiveness of programs as well as the preparation of research articles and proposals
  2. Community-based field activities focused on implementation of cancer and tobacco control programs including cancer intervention, tobacco prevention/intervention and cessation programs, community outreach activities
  3. Administrative support activities related to office operations, and assistance in organization and arrangement of special events
Job Requirements

The successful candidate must be able to work as a member of a team, while having the ability to work independently. Qualifications include:

Education:

At least a B.A./ B.S. degree, MA/MS preferred, in Public Health, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field, and some background in one or more Asian cultures. Bilingual ability (an Asian language) is a plus.

Skills / Experience:
  • Computer application expertise (MS OFFICE - i.e. Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, adaptive technology experience preferred)
  • Self organized and able to maintain organized procedures that can be followed by others

Job Title Research Assistants - Data Management Team
Job Description

The Center for Asian Health at Temple University is one of the first in the nation dedicated to reducing cancer and other health disparities among Asian Americans. Currently there is an open part-time position for a qualified candidate to serve as Research Assistant in the data management team.

Job Requirements Key Responsibilities

  1. File and maintain research forms and research data in a timely manner
  2. Assist with monitoring research data entry process, data cleaning and quality control, export dataset and generate report from database
  3. Assist with database program development
  4. Conduct basic statistical analysis for research data, create tables and charts for presentations and publications, and provide interpretations for result tables and charts
  5. Prepare conference posters as needed
  6. Assist with community/field research data collection as needed
  7. Other assignments such as literature searching as needed
Formal Qualifications

Bachelor degree in Statistics, Information Management, Public Health, Sociology, Psychology, or other related sciences; or a current postgraduate (Ph.D preferred) candidate in these areas.

Computer Skills

  1. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Package (especially EXCEL and ACCESS and familiar with programming in EXCEL and ACCESS.)
  2. Strong at SPSS (familiar with commonly-used SPSS analysis methods). SAS and Data mining/programming experience preferred.
Attributes

Good team worker and strong ability to work independently, detail and deadline-orientated, strong analytical ability, efficient and thorough, and bilingual in English and an Asian language such as Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese or Khmer preferred.

Job Title Volunteers
Job Description

The Center for Asian Health (CAH) at Temple University provides programs aimed at reducing the risk of cancer, detecting cancer as early as possible, and empowering Asian communities to collectively close gaps of health and cancer disparities in Asian communities. We welcome volunteers and provide a variety of opportunities for community lay people, undergraduate and graduate students to contribute to the various projects at our Center in Asian American communities. CAH volunteer experience offers exciting exposure and insight in Asian community field activities, survey administration, community education and outreach, program development as well as clinical experiences.

We are continually seeking committed and enthusiastic volunteers to assist with community participant recruitment, cancer screening event language assistance, research data collection and entry, and program material development.

Job Requirements

Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
