Music Therapy

The Music Therapy program is designed to furnish preparation for practicing music therapy in various clinical situations. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates may qualify for certification by the American Association for Music Therapy and/or the National Association for Music Therapy.

A total of 1,040 hours must be satisfactorily completed prior to granting of the degree.

* In lieu of Voice 11, 12 (2 cr.), voice concentrations take 2 additional credits of Diction; in lieu of Secondary Piano 5, 6, 105, 106, 205 (5 cr.), piano concentrations take an additional 2 credits of Functional Guitar, and 3 electives credits in Voice or Jazz Piano; in lieu of Guitar 58, 59 (2 cr.), guitar concentrations take an additional 2 credits in Functional Piano. Pianists and guitarists are required to take the respective functional courses unless they pass competency examinations; if successful, substitute credits will not be required.
# Students may substitute a second semester of "Anatomy" for "Computers in Music."

This non-performing program is designed to prepare students for entry level positions in such fields as library science, the publishing industry, communications, the new computer software industry, and other new and diverse areas of the music profession. Applicants must arrange to take exam-inations in the areas of musicianship and musical aptitude before enrolling in the program. This may be done by contacting Ms. Linda White (215-204-8598) at the Boyer College of Music.
