B.S. in General Science with Teaching

The B.S. with Teaching program in General Science is part of Temple's innovative teacher-training program, “TUteach.” The B.S. with Teaching provides broad training in the sciences and prepares students for a career in secondary school teaching. Students who complete the B.S. with Teaching will meet Pennsylvania teacher certification requirements via theoretical and practical courses in education specifically designed for science and mathematics majors. The education courses in the B.S. with Teaching degree program include practice teaching in school district classrooms and emphasize inquiry-based approaches to learning.

Bachelor of Science Major Requirements

Biology 1011 and 1012; Chemistry 1031/1033 and 1032/1034; C+IN SC 1068; Earth & Environmental Science 1001 or 2001; Mathematics 1041 and 1042; Physics 1004, 1021 and 1022; SCI TEC 4351 and 4 science concentration electives along with SCI TEC 1189, 1289; Education 2179; Math Education or Science Education (Secondary) 2189, 4189, XXXX*, XXXX*, XXXX*, XXXX*; and Philosophy 3XXX*. The four science electives chosen to satisfy the science concentration must be above the 2000 level from one of the following departments: Biology, Chemistry, Earth & Environmental Science or Physics.  Furthermore they must all be taken in the same department.

Writing Intensive Requirement for Major

Students must take a minimum of two writing-intensive courses as part of the major. Following is a list of courses that can be used to satisfy the writing-intensive requirement: Biology 2296**, Biology 3096, Biology 3196, Biology 3396, Chemistry 3196**, Chemistry 4196, Chemistry 4396, Earth & Environmental Science 4096, Earth & Environmental Science 4197, Earth & Environmental Science 4997, Physics 2796** or Physics 4796.
