The B.S. with Teaching program in Earth & Space Science is part of Temple's innovative teacher-training program, “TUteach.” The B.S. with teaching provides broad training in Earth & Space Science using a combination of traditional lecture, laboratory and field experiences, and prepares students for a career in secondary school teaching. Students who complete the B.S. with Teaching will meet Pennsylvania teacher certification requirements via theoretical and practical courses in education specifically designed for science and mathematics majors. The education courses in the B.S. with teaching degree program include practice teaching in school district classrooms and emphasize inquiry-based approaches to learning.
Bachelor of science major requirementsGeneral Chemistry I with lab; Calculus I; calculus-based Physics I; Physics 0846; Earth & Environmental Science 2001, Earth & Environmental Science 2011, Earth & Environmental Science 2015, five upper division Earth & Environmental Science electives of which at least two must be writing intensive; two of the following science foundation electives: Biology 1111, Biology 2112, Chemistry 1032/1034, Chemistry 2201/2203, Math 1042, Math 2031 or Physics 1062; along with SCI TEC 1189, 1289; Education 2179; Math Education or Science Education (Secondary) 2189, 4189, XXXX**, XXXX**, XXXX**, XXXX**; and Philosophy 3XXX**.
Writing Intensive Requirement for MajorStudents must take a minimum of two writing intensive courses as part of the major. Following is a list of courses that can be used to satisfy the writing intensive requirement: Earth & Environmental Science 4096, Earth & Environmental Science 4197 or Earth & Environmental Science 4997. **Pending final course approval. Contact your academic advisor for more information when applicable.
*Earth & Environmental Science electives must be above 2000 and at least two of the Earth & Environmental Science electives must be writing intensive courses. **Pending final course approval. Contact your academic advisor for more information when applicable.
^Science Foundation Electives
Distinction in MajorTo graduate with a Distinction in Major, students are required to achieve a 3.5 GPA for the aggregate of courses required for the B.S. in Earth & Environmental Science with Teaching. Within the aggregate of courses for distinction, Physics 0846 will be included. |
